Château Guy de Wendel, also known as Château de Tournebride, is an architectural landmark located in Hayange, Moselle. Built in 1906 by Guy de Wendel (1878–1955), son of Robert de Wendel (1847–1903), the château embodies the prestige and influence of the de Wendel family, a major industrial dynasty in the region.
Originating from Bruges, the de Wendel family settled in Hayange in 1704 with Jean-Martin de Wendel, establishing a lineage of ironmasters who shaped the history of the French steel industry.
Now transformed into a luxury hotel-restaurant, the château allows visitors to step into this remarkable heritage.
The nickname “Lady of Iron” refers to Marguerite d’Hausen (1718–1802), wife of Charles de Wendel (1708–1784), who managed the family’s business during the French Revolution. Expropriated during the Reign of Terror, she died in poverty in Metz — yet she remains in collective memory as “Madame d’Hayange”, a symbol of resilience and determination.
